SFA Ban on Trans Women – Gender Goals FC Statement

It has been reported that the SFA will be enforcing a blanket ban on trans women competing in women’s football.

Gender Goals FC condemns this cruel and harmful decision which is not founded in any kind of biological reality.

Studies have shown that trans women who have undergone HRT have no significant advantage over cis women. The argument that trans women outperform cis women lacks scientific evidence (1).

The SFA have made a highly reactionary decision based on the recent ruling by the UK Supreme Court which has been called “biologically illiterate” by the British Medical Association (2).

This decision goes against the SFAs own policies on diversity and inclusion. They have fallen flat on the claim that fairness, justice, respect for each other, inclusion, addressing inequalities and removing barriers are their core values (3).

Currently, the FA have a common sense based policy which is based on scientific evidence and balances inclusivity with fair competition and safety by only permitting trans players who meet specific hormone-based criteria (4).

GGFC was founded on the belief that trans people deserve to have a place in football, and by extension wider society. This exclusionary policy will prevent trans people from enjoying the mental and physical benefits of the most popular sport in the world.
